HistoryThe Esk sawmill was owned by Lars Anderson in partnership with his brothers Jason C. Anderson and Hans Peter Anderson. Lars was the designer and builder, Jason the wheelwright and Hans the blacksmith. Established in 1885, the mill was located in Ipswich Street and later moved to Factory Lane/Adelaide Street in 1900. The mill was 220 feet long by 120 feet wide with centre posts. Lars operated an integrated enterprise including growing, milling and transporting the timber. In March 1924, the Esk mill which was his largest mill was destroyed by fire. H.A. Teske purchased the mill from Anderson in 1925.
