Colinton is a locality which took it's name from "Colinton" the pastoral station established on 19th August 1941 by the Balfour brothers, John, Charles and Robert. The Balfour's named "Colinton" after the village of Colinton on the south-western outskirts of Edinburgh Scotland, whence they had emigrated. Colinton Receiving Office opened in 1878 and became a Post Office in 1913.
