HistoryThe Esk Visitor Information Centre was the Esk Shire Council Office and Regional Board Office. The Shire Council and Regional Board offices were first operational in 1907. Initially, local government was established in Queensland as an administrative structure that provided a coordinated road network based on a local financing initiative. The government of the day had insufficient funds to finance a balanced road construction program, and in the 1860's the allocation of road and bridge money depended on the political influence of the local parliamentarian. A brick room was built in 1926 for two safes to be installed.TypeTourism & RecreationReferencesEsk Visitor Information Centre Factsheet. Esk: Somerset Regional Council. (Held at Esk Library).
