HistoryThe 1974 flood was twenty feet below the 1893 flood levels in the Lowood and Fernvale areas. Brightview and Patrick’s Estate residents were evacuated, as were some Toogoolawah residents when Cressbrook Creek entered the town. Many roads were cut off and farmers fed milk to pigs because there was no hope of getting it to local factories. Total damage to roads, bridges and culverts in the Esk Shire was $280,000. Maronghi Creek and Gregor’s Creek bridges had to be replaced.Date1974TypeFloodsReferencesConfidence & Tradition: A History of the Esk Shire by Ruth Kerr.
