"Stanley River Works Board was established in 1932 to construct a dam on the Stanley River. A preliminary conference of municipal officers of the Brisbane and Ipswich City Councils was held in October 1934, the necessary amendment to the Act to provide statutory authority for the Board was passed in November and the Stanley River Works Board members held their first meeting on 7 November 1934. The Board was originally comprised of officers including engineers of the two Councils and members of the Bureau of Industry. Work began on the township and dam in 1935, but operations were suspended in November 1942 because of World War II, and recommenced in 1948 after the Co-ordinator General's Office, in 1947, took over the administration of the Board from the disbanded Bureau of Industry . The township and responsibility for tourism and recreational facilities were transferred to Esk Shire in 1954- 1955, and the Stanley River Works Board held its final meeting in May 1955. Work continued until 1958-1959 and the dam and hydro-electric power station was handed over to Brisbane City Council from 1 July 1959."
