BiographyTony joined the railways on 2nd January 1963 starting as engine cleaner at Ipswich roundhouse, moving to Mayne and then Winton as a fireman. Stationed in Toogoolawah until April 1967, he said it was the “best job in the world - fresh air, work mates, freedom and shift work”. Tony was the fireman, with driver Frank Pitman and guard, Reg Lythall. The other crew members were Hec Quinn, fireman Bluey Gilby and guard, Curly Lloyd Sutton. Station master was Kev McInally, assitant station master was Geoff McKitrick and the station porter was Peter English. Tony's father, Jack Irvin was the fettler and ganger in Toogoolawah from about 1942 until his retirement at 66 years old. His father worked with Eric Grienke and Gordon Lockett.
