The line was officially opened to Lowood on Monday the 16th of June 1884. A special train departed Ipswich at 11:45 AM conveying 500 passengers along the "serpentine railway" to Lowood. The picture shows the rail siding with the creamery depot and Lowood condensed Milk Company. The Railway Station has been restored and will be used as a Railway History Museum. The Railway line from Fernvale to Lowood is now the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail for walking and cycling.
