HistoryThe 1955 floods had a catastrophic effect on the region. Two thousand acres of farmland in the Mount Stanley area were flooded. Hay sheds, irrigation plants and windmills were destroyed and sand was washed into irrigation channels. The railway bridge at Colinton and both ends of the bridge over the Brisbane river on the Kilcoy road were washed away. The Cooeeimbardi area suffered total crop losses on many farms where water was up to 30 feet deep. The Brisbane River rose to18.7 metres at Wivenhoe Bridge.DateBetween 1st January 1955 and 31st December 1955TypeFloodsReferencesConfidence & Tradition: A History of the Esk Shire by Ruth Kerr.
